Food lovers, Berlin Film Festival has a very special menu for you on offer: the Culinary Cinema.
The cinema in the Martin-Gropius-Building will screen movies around food and ecology, about producing, consuming and enjoying. But that’s not all. After each screening of the movies in the evening program, visitors will attend a dinner prepared by famous star chefs like Daniel Achilles, Michael Kempf or Tim Raue. This years’ main attraction, is the documentary El Somni, starring the three Roca brothers. The Rocas restaurant El Celler de Can Roca holds three Michelin stars and has recently been elected best restaurant of the world. Of course – the brothers will also cook for you after the movie. Each evening will conclude with talks and discussions on changing topics, involving the chefs, the movie producers, protagonists and other interesting professionals.
A novelty during this years film festival, is the initiative Berlinale goes Kietz, which brings culinary cinema even into the deepest centre of Kreuzberg. The screenings will take place at Eiszeit Cinema and food will be served in Markthalle Neun.
However, the film festival will not only come to Markthalle Neun, but also vice versa. Throughout the whole festival period, the infamous Streetfood Thursday will have a guest appearance at the Berlinale, holding a street food market near Potsdamer Platz. Everybody who has ever been to one of the delicious Thursday night events at the Markthalle knows that the international savouries on offer should not be missed.
